Here is dear old Sam ..so now you've met the gang until the girls arrive! Sam is 14 - a year older than Wee Man. The school kids have grown up patting him on their way to school. I liked to think that if there was a weepy child - the sight of Sam at the gate would cheer them up. ( Dillon just barks at them now )

We got Sam when we moved back from Spain...first thing we did ! So there was me - a non driver, living two miles from the village, a toddler, a puppy & pregnant !

Sam used to dive underwater completely & come up with oyster shells ( no pearls though ) but he hung his flippers up several years ago & is content with doddering around the garden. He is blind in one eye & has "selective hearing" Bless 'im. He'll probably ignore the hens like he does the cats. He is indifferent to Dillon but Dillon loves him & keeps him warm.

He has a bit of a past which includes a stay at the police station - used to roam. The postman brought him home in his van once. He always headed for the water.

When his time comes, I'd like to bury him at sea - the old sea dog.

  1. My parents' in law's farm dog was a sea dog too! They used to pop him in the farm van and drive him to the Bristol Channel for a swim whenever they had the time, which I thought was a sweet treat for a working dog.

Your Sam is so lovely and cheerful. Our Raja is normally cheerful too, but when we took her to the sea last week she became rather dejected (we have a photo on my blog to prove it). She likes swimming in fresh water but found the salt and the waves very disappointing.

  2. Aw Bless. Sam wants to be young but the bod just won't do it. Fresh - salt it doesn't matter! I heard that Retreivers were bred to bring in the fishing nets - Sam would have been a star.

  4. He he, Sam's legs get filthy where he dribbles while lying down head on legs... the dirt sticks to it. Daffy old dog. Considering taking him to the canine heated pool - he'll love it !
