Decided to nip into the local town with the teens. Nipping in isn't quite the right phrase as we need to get the bus. It is always late in the school holidays. £ 12.50 later we arrived. ( Darling daughter will start driving lessons in December - then she can be my taxi. Ha, I like the role reversal ...all my friends are taxis for their teens )
At the bus stop I realised that I am officially a Little Mum. I'm 5 foot 5 and a half. DD is 5-8 and Wee Man now tops me too.
However I can still be a big embarrassing mum & decided to update them on "Neighbours" in front of the whole queue. Mum. Stop.
We went to Fat Face where I never find anything but I spied a sundress. I've been after one all summer. To my intense pleasure the size 14 fitted. As I took it to the counter still inside out I realised it was reversible. The assistant didn't think so, " It's got labels " so I said I'd cut them off. Even better it was down to fifteen quid. I was so pleased I almost squealed. Got told off again by DD. Mum. Stop.
The main purpose of the trip was for DD to get some more books. To say she has been obsessed with the Twilight Saga is a huge understatement. We have been living & breathing Vampires & Werewolves for months. I read the first book and I can see the attraction and as one Blogger says, the film is full of " Eye Candy " ( for either sex )
Still she knew herself she needed to read something else so tried Noughts and Crosses which has sat on her shelf for a couple of years. Guess what ? She's hooked. So now she has the set - 3 for 2 even better.
Do you know what is lovely in all this ? what is a joy to me and her ? She is severely dyslexic.
" She just doesn't get it " said one teacher years ago. If she could see her now....
Hi and thanks for visiting my blog! Looking forward to reading your posts and hearing all about your hens! I've just set up a new blog http://allthingschicken.blogspot.com/ to share my experiences and advice re chicken keeping. Hopefully you'll find it useful in the coming weeks! (Early days at present though :) ). Good luck! x
ReplyDeleteShe may be obsessed with Twilight (bah! They aren't REAL vampires in that series... now I remember when vampires WERE vampires, like on Buffy!!!)
ReplyDeleteShoulda gone to ASOS.com... as I tell all my women friends... including you! Wot's the world coming to when your own daughter is telling you off in shops?
She is clearly only technically dyslexic. She's one of those DD's wot doesn't know she's not supposed to be able to read... so she just gets on wiv it! Clearly 'impossible' is something that happens to other people! Good for her... even if she does turn into a book addict!!!
I watched the Twilight movie for the first time a couple of months ago and found myself drooling of the main male character "He's old enough to be your nephew, babe!" pointed out my husband. Too true but what the heck.
ReplyDeleteIt's great to hear of your daughters thirst for books ;) Glad you had a good day. x
Hi Bluebell - I'll take a look. Thx. Griffin - those ASOS dresses are Soooo short - maybe for DD but not moi ! Umm Lucy we are looking forward to the sequil - just wait 'til you see Jacob Black all growed up !!!
ReplyDeleteI loved Twilight the book - haven't got round to the moovie yet (actually, I think everyone's better looking in my imagination than they could possibly be on film, so I'm not sure I want to see it...)
ReplyDeleteI'm a dyslexia teacher, and I've got pupils who set off on the Twilight series and have never looked back - there are so few people who truly can't read - it's just more of a struggle for some folks to get there. Well done to your DD!
Hi Floss, are you a dyslexic teacher or a teacher of dyslexics ? ! ( sorry ) DD started on Michael Murpogo aged 11 thamks to a truly wonderful teacher...and never looked back. Wee Man is worse so I get him audio tapes. Both kidz soooo articulate...I wonder where they get liking the spoken word from ?
