Christmas fun

Hi there, long time no Blog.

I've  had the cold from Hell so have been at home keeping warm for most of the week apart from dog walks.

Last week my daughter and I had three days and nights in London which was fab;  she leaves to go to Asia then New Zealand after Christmas so it was lovely spending time together doing fun things.

The first night husband joined us and we went to see Les Miserables which was fantastic. It's such a powerful musical but not for everyone - Joe didn't want to see it and at West End theatre prices we weren't going to waste a ticket.

We were booked into a hostel off Oxford street so very central to get to what we wanted to do. Husband went home the next day back to work. Jess and I booked on a bus tour and decided to hop off to visit the Tower of London. It was very cold but so interesting and our guide was really great. It's very chilling reading some of the stories especially about Ann Boleyn and the prisoners kept there and the poor Princes in the tower.

The Crown Jewels are incredible ! I would recommend a visit  to the tower and stay at our hostel.

In the evening we headed to see festive windows at Selfridges which was fun. We timed visiting the shop perfectly as inside there was a fanfare with Father Christmas, marching band, dancers and very loud music ! The finale was a shower of glitter which was stunning.

The shop window displays and lights at night time were wonderful. We spent a lot of time walking and looking.

It was such a fun trip but not fun having been poorly since and I've had to cancel a several things this week. I am however going to see the new Star Wars film with Jess & Joe today. I love that they have loved the films as I saw the very first one with my big brother when I was fourteen and staying with him in his first flat share in London

A couple of weeks ago we went to the Victorian fayre at Portsmouth historic dockyard which was great fun.  There were ladies on stilts dressed as giant bells...

and men dressed as Angels riding on hidden Segways !

There was a delightful fair like structure with entertainers performing inside.
I loved it and found that it was a restored

It was charming and I'd love to go to a show in one one day rather than just popping in.  We also thought what an amazing venue for a wedding it would make !

Although I've been poorly and virtually lost a whole week,
I am ahead with Christmas presents, all wrapped and tucked under the tree.

I'm looking forward to cooking the Christmas meal.
Last week I put the leftover roast outside to cool down as the heating was on
and although it was on a bench and all cats safely inside,
we discovered later that half a chicken, left over sausages and stuffing all gone...

the happy culprit...

will be kept away from our turkey !

  1. I bet he thought Christmas had come early. I'm pleased you had a great time in London. I loved Les Mis too, although it's almost 20 years since I saw it.
